Course Outline

Better Business Cases training and certification is based on HM Treasury’s Green Book (Central Government Guidance on appraising and evaluation policies, programmes and projects) and the Five Case Model (a discipline and structure for arriving at the best possible decision).

Key Learning:

  • The development lifecycle of a business case and the relationships between the five cases.
  • How to apply the steps in the business case development framework, in order to support the production of a business case, using the Five Case Model, for a given scenario.

  1. Overview of the Five Case Model
  2. Developing the Strategic Case
  3. Developing the Economic Case
  4. Developing the Commercial Case
  5. Developing the Financial Case
  6. Developing the Management Case

Learning Outcomes:

Apply and understand how to tailor the Five Case Model effectively to the development of a business case within an organisation environment supporting the approach.
 

FOUNDATION plus:

  • Understand the development lifecycle of a business case and relationships between the five cases
  • Apply steps in the business case development framework to support production of a business case, using the Five Case Model, for a given scenario.

Exam Format:

  • Objective testing
  • 4 questions per paper, with 20 marks available per question
  • 40 marks or more required to pass (out of 80 available) - 50%
  • 2 ½ hours duration (taken on Day 2 for in-person training and at your convenience if delivered as online, instructor-led)
  • Open book exam (International Guide to developing the Project Business Case and International Guide to developing the Programme Business Case only)

Requirements

An advanced qualification providing an in-depth understanding of the business case development process. Participants are required to have successfully passed the Better Business Cases™ FOUNDATION exam
